NCTS Iceland - Standby Generating System
This project included the design and construction of a new standby generating system at the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station (NCTS) in Grindavík, Iceland. Our work included design services, installation of reinforced concrete equipment pads, and modifications to an existing unused generator enclosure to house the new systems. Interior improvements included the installation of durable epoxy and rubber flooring. Electrical scope involved constructing an underground ductbank between the new generator and existing switchgear, while mechanical efforts included cleaning and inspecting the bulk fuel storage tanks, flushing fuel distribution piping, and installing new coolant piping with insulation. The generator’s exhaust system was completed with roof-mounted exhaust piping and a muffler, including all necessary roof penetrations and weatherproofing. All work was executed in accordance with U.S. Navy standards and local regulations, ensuring reliable backup power for this mission-critical facility.
